IT BEGINS --- WE MAY BE CRAZY!!!

Well, here we go...after a year of us 5 (plus dog), living in a one-bedroom barn house, with a purchased empty 1.2 acre lot down the lane waiting for us while we lamented and re-lamented about our building plans, had a few mental break downs (literally), perhaps some marriage counselling... and going practically full circle with our blueprints (driving our draftsman crazy I am sure), eating up and spitting out not 1 but 2 passivhaus designers, a few hundred dollars down and eventually deciding to give it a go on our own without completing the energy modeling etc....I think we are officially ready to build this house now... Actually, just that little recap makes me want to run and hide my head in the sand and not come out until it is all over...here we go...wish us luck!!!! Did I mention that we are our own General Contractors, we will be doing the footings and foundation on our own, Jeremy with his wonderful woodworking skills will be building our kitchen from scratch, and we will try to pinch a penny and extend ourselves as far as possible doing as much of the work ourselves amid the daily demands of Jeremy's work, our family, 3 busy boys (Yes now the JC & CO. cottage has become the JC & COW. cottage with the addition of our delightsom Walden dear), and church. Hopefully we will learn a lot along the way and that it will be mostly smooth sailing from here on out (yeah right!!!).
